Special Events

Making time for special events is always fun and exciting. At preschool we have a number of events spread though out the school year. We have events such as visiting the fire station in October where the students get to see first-hand a fire truck, what items it all holds, and have the chance to sit inside one. This experience is a highlight after learning about fire safety in the classroom. In the fall we also take the older preschoolers to a play or orchestra. This is a time for the preschoolers to experience something that they may not otherwise see. Then in February or March when the winter is getting long we will break it up with an in-house field trip where we may have a story teller, a magician, animals from the zoo or nature center come to our preschool. At the end of the school year in May we go to the farm. The farm is a great opportunity for the students to see, feed, and pet the farm animals along with learning how to grow crops/food. These events add a different form of learning into our everyday schedules and offer hands-on experiences for the students.
In our preschool we also incorporate families by having special days for moms, dads, and grandparents. Since our preschool does not run through the summer, we have a special evening where the students can come back to preschool and have dinner with dad. This is a great time for dad's to meet each other and have a special evening with their child. We also have an opportunity for the grandparents to come to visit, have a snack with their grandchild and hear music played by a past preschool grandparent. In the spring we have muffins with mom for Mother's day. At all these events we encourage someone special to come and celebrate with the preschooler if the father, mother, or grandparent is unable to attend/not in the family picture. As teachers we keep each event simple, but special so that it is not a lot of work added to the everyday schedule. These events are all special, so make sure to include some into your calendar for the next school year.
